Kentucky State Flag Kentucky

Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the Commonwealth

I pledge allegiance to the Kentucky flag,
And to the Sovereign State for which it stands,
One Commonwealth, blessed with diversity, natural wealth, beauty,
  And grace from on High.

Adoption of the Pledge of Allegiance

A flurry of legislative activity regarding an official pledge to the Kentucky flag took place in 2000, but Senate Bill No. 68, sponsored by Senator Vernie McGaha and others, was the bill that was finally adopted into law.

Senate Bill No. 68 was introduced in the Kentucky Senate on January 7, 2000. After some modification, to "to make for easier recitation," the bill was approved unanimously in the Senate on February 3, 2000. In the House of Representatives, two amendments were proposed but later withdrawn. On March 23, the bill passed unanimously in the House of Representatives.

On March 29, 2000, Governor Paul E. Patton signed the legislation adopting an official Pledge of Allegiance to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
