1. Governor Linda Lingle approved House Bill No. 659 - "Kalo (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott), the Hawaiian word for taro, is adopted, established, and designated as the official plant of the State." However, an error in the legislative process left the effective date (date law would take effect) as January 1, 2025. Governor Lingle urged the Hawai'i Legislature to correct this error in the next legislative session. [ More ]
