NO. R-239. JOINT RESOLUTION
RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A STATE SONG COMMISSION.

Whereas, Hail Vermont was selected as the official state song
in May 1938 by a special committee that Governor George Aiken had been
authorized to appoint under No. 350 of the Acts and Resolves of 1937, and
Whereas, as Vermont embarks on its third century of statehood,
it is appropriate that a new and more singable melody be selected to celebrate
our state, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That a volunteer committee consisting of three persons appointed by the
board of the Vermont Arts Council shall solicit and review musical candidates
to be designated as the official Vermont State Song and/or State Anthem and
shall report its recommendation to the General Assembly on or before February
15, 1999, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a
copy of this resolution to the Vermont Arts Council.
