ALASKA BOROUGHS and CENSUS AREAS (by population)
|
| Alaska is unique among the states. It's extremely large, much of the state is sparsely populated, and
much of the state has not been divided into local governing units in the manner of counties. Instead of local divisions of
government established as counties, Alaska is divided into a group of 16
administrative units, called boroughs, and 11 geographical census areas.
The population figures given below are from the 2000 census. You may list the counties by county name, by area in square
miles, by year organized or by population by clicking on the column headings or using the pull-down list box. |
